Look at what we have been up to this year! 2022-23

Art

Year 5 have researched the work of Paul Cadden, looking at his one and two point perspective art. We then had a go at our own one-point perspective work. First, we had a go at drawing bubble letters on a one-point scale. Then, we tried to ensure that we were drawing to scale, with objects further away being drawn smaller and objects closer being drawn bigger.

Computing

5H and 5G enjoyed making some Christmas Pixel Art in their computing lessons. The children had fun tinkering with pixel size and trying to get their pixel art to move.

Science

Year 5 enjoyed investigating how we would separate different materials. We looked at the different separating techniques such as filtering, sieving, evaporation and magnetism. We then used this knowledge to predict which technique would be best to separate mixtures such as raisins and flour, rice and paper-clips, sand and water and salt and water. After this, we conducted our experiment to see how accurate our predictions were.

Forces

This half term, we have learnt about the force of gravity and investigated whether the weight of an object affected the speed it would fall.

We have enjoyed investigating air resistance and water resistance in year 5! We have learnt that the larger the object, the more air/water resistance and therefore the slower the movement!

Red Nose Day

We LOVED dressing up for World Book Day and discussing the characters that we had dressed up as! We even designed our own classroom door, making predictions for what we think will happen in 'The Explorer' and designed our own book covers.

Greek Hero Workshop

We had the opportunity to revisit, recall and consolidate our Ancient Greeks and Greek Myth knowledge with an Ancient Greek Hero Workshop. In this workshop, we managed to slay Medusa, create freeze frames of Greek Myths and show the different sports within the Ancient Greek Olympics through different freeze frames. We had so much fun!

Stockings

Year 5 had a great time making Christmas stockings. Firstly, we researched what stockings are used for and made of etc. We then designed our own stocking and practised a couple of sewing techniques that we could use. We finally made our stocking and then evaluated it.

Pointillism

We looked at the work of Paul Signac. We drew our own landscape and used the stippling technique with paint to create a blended image of dots!

TT Rock stars Day

We love TT Rock stars in Year 5, but especially on TT Rock stars day. Children came dressed up as rock stars and participated in times table activities all day. We even had a year group battle, which was very competitive!

Harvest Assembly

Year 5 led the Harvest assembly in church. The children said their lines clearly, acted out confidently and the whole of Key Stage 2 sang beautifully! Well done Year 5!
