Science Day
Walking Water, Skittle Rainbows, Magic Snow and the Elephants Toothpaste
Year 1 celebrated our Science Day by conducting several exciting experiments inspired by Mr Stanley’s assembly. First of all, we set up our Walking Water experiment and made predictions about what would happen to the empty cups and the kitchen paper. We monitored this over time.
Rainbow Skittles
Then we made beautiful rainbow patterns using skittles and water. We couldn’t believe our eyes when the colours started to dissolve and diffuse into the water.
Magic Snow
We observed how materials can change their form when we added water to magic snow powder.
Elephants Toothpaste
Finally we finished off our science day with an experiment called ‘Elephant’s Toothpaste’. It is called that because the chemical reaction between the vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda makes it look like toothpaste coming out of a tube.
We loved watching the immediate reaction and how the two materials mixed together to create a foam.
