The Science Of Bread 2014

As part of our Micro-Organism's topic in Science, year 6 children discovered the science behind bread making.

Our learning focus was to understand that micro-organisms are living organisms that are often too small to be seen, but are often beneficial i.e in making bread.

We designed a simple test to observe the conditions for growth of yeast.

We discovered that bread rises when it contains yeast, but without yeast it does not.

Yeast needs sugar and warmth to grow, and that supports the idea that it is living.

At the end we got to eat the delicious bread with some chocolate and jam spread. Lucky parent's even got to taste some at home.

They were impressed !
