Reading "Twickenham Trials"

There has been lots of excitement in reading in year five this half term. We have been following an on-line story written by popular children’s author Tom Palmer. Each day Tom writes a chapter of his story “The Twickenham Trials” which is linked to the rugby world cup.

The children sent questions to Tom and he answered these on an on-line video. The children came up with the idea that Tom could write a chapter in verse as part of National poetry day and were delighted when they logged on to the website and saw this introduction to chapter sixteen

“Today’s chapter is in verse, to celebrate National Poetry Day. This was the idea of St John’s Primary School in Liverpool. Thank you for challenging me to do this. I’m not a poet, as you will see. But a challenge is a challenge. And I did enjoy it.”

Tom also mentioned on his twitter account how the pupils of St. John’s had inspired him to write in verse.

The children are sad that story is nearly complete. However we have plans to order new Tom Palmer books for our class libraries

Tom’s story can be read at home with your children by following the link below.
